As President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office yesterday, entertainers have shared their expectations for the next four years. Excerpts:

Nollywood is Nigeria’s second best export after oil. This has made it imperative for successive governments to take Noollywood seriously. My advice is that the incoming government should create conducive atmosphere for Nollywood by establishing a special anti-piracy squad to fight intellectual property thieves. It should also offer the industry financial assistance.

A lot is wrong in the country especially with electricity and the fuel situation. This government should please see to the issue of piracy because it is killing Nollywood. We need good roads that will take us to our destinations safely and not to early graves. We need quality education and medical care too and we are hopeful.

I am looking forward to change and we are not just going to leave it for President Buhari alone; we all have to contribute our quota. Government is losing a lot of revenue due to piracy. You can imagine how much we can contribute to the GDP of the country. My advice to the new government is that it should take the entertainment industry more seriously.

I honestly don’t know what to expect from his regime. People always say that Buhari is a good and straight forward person. I think laws should be made and implemented if piracy is to be curbed. There is something called the Private Copy Levy. All that is left is for it to be signed. I think when it is signed it will help artists.
